Oodles of Stuff

Kory and I have been busy, busy, busy. This may be a long blog, I have lots to write about. Kory has finished his semester at school and much to our surprise he doesn't have to retake any classes. (That is really true, we had our doubts.) So with just work our nights have been devoted to getting a garden in and putting in sprinklers. This is much harder than it sounds. Our yard is so extremely rocky. We started with high hopes of getting all the rocks out to plant grass and have been told by all the neighbors not to waste our time and just plant over the rocks. Slowly our aspirations have diminished and now we are just getting out the large rocks. The garden on the other hand is a different story. All rocks are being removed there. Kory is working on getting the sprinklers in and so far we have a lot of trenches in our backyard. Our next door neighbor came over the other day to examine what we were doing and the first question out of his mouth was "Are you guys preparing for World War 1?" That is definitely how our backyard looks right now on a slightly smaller scale. Along with our yard, if you have been to our house you have seen our lovely creek (please pronounce "crick") on the side of our house. We love having our creek but we didn't realize that having a creek would bring such wildlife to our yard. We have a new family of ducks that likes to hang out there. Here are a couple of pictures of our little family in their growing stages. We can't forget the many, many snakes, and something that we found out is called a vole. I have faithfully been trying to get a picture for you to see these disgusting things but they are really fast! In the winter everyone has tracks through all their grass as if snakes just go over the same pattern over and over but it is actually from these voles eating the grass in squiggly patterns. They are disgusting!
On a prettier note we have just gotten our new entertainment center! We have had a large one for quite some time that did not fit our TV. Thank you Heather and Brian, it has been wonderful and is ready for you when you are. It has taken awhile for Kory and I to agree on an entertainment center and then we saw it...in Boise Idaho. Of course we had no way to get it from Idaho and since Kory isn't an impulse buyer and had to think on it for awhile we decided to wait. Then we found out this same store was in Logan. They happened to have the same one here but it was the wrong color and they said they couldn't order us in the right one until the end of the year. Yeah right!!! We started our search again. Then on Thursday they called us and said never mind, we will get it here for you by Saturday if you still want it. We were so excited!!! And it looks absolutely wonderful! Well that is our life in a nutshell right now. And of course a fond farewell from our cute little dog who has become accustomed to always sitting in the window.

Computer Problemos.

Just a quick update our hard drive completely crashed so we have been computer less for a couple weeks now. We had a small amount of hope it was just our video card so that we would be able to save ALL of our pictures (no we never backed them up somewhere else and are kicking ourselves now) however, the hard drive was the problem and we had to re whatever you do and erase everything. So now we have a computer again but nothing on it! I just thought I would let you all know the reasons for no blogs recently. A lesson for all: BACK UP YOUR PICTURES!

Busy, Busy, Busy!

Kory and I have been busy, busy, busy!! We decided we wanted to paint the kitchen and found the perfect colors in the example book at home depot. (We are not very creative-we had to copy an exact room.) Anyhow, so far we only did one wall. This was our original plan and have since decided to paint the rest of the kitchen as well. Here is the one wall we have done so far! It is a deep green that I can't get to show the real color too well. I just like my table with the curtains, table runner, and basket of fruit.
We also have hated the lights in our living room. They were so dim we could barely even see at night when we didn't have any sun helping out. Kory has always loved can lights and set out to sell me on them. Because Home Depot had some issues getting us the right parts it took us awhile to totally complete them. I love them. There are six in all and for the ones at the very top of the vault Kory was on the piano bench with a TV stand on that and a kitchen chair on top of that! It looked very precarious. All of the insulation was blown in so as soon as the holes were cut it just started falling through. They look really good and they really brighten the room. Kory did almost lose an eye but what can ya do?! This weekend we are painting the bedroom so we will keep you posted on how awesome our projects look! It is so nice to have our own house where we can do things like this!

My Hubby Tag

1-Where did you meet your husband?
We met in an accounting class at LDSBC. I saw him across the room and thought he must be married or seriously dating someone because he was so cute!!! I gradually moved closer and closer to where he sat until I was eventually behind him. Then one wonderful day someone took his seat and the closest one open was right next to me!!! After that he was hooked. He sat next to me the rest of the semester!

2- How long did you date before getting married?
We started going on dates in February of 2007, however, I now know he was also taking another girl out at the time. He officially said he just wanted to date me in April of the same year. We got engaged at the end of August and married in November.

3-How long have we been married?
We have been married one year and 3 months.

4- What does he do that surprises you?
He loves to play with little kids. He always wants to sit behind them in sacrament meeting and will even get to the point of getting down on the floor to look at or play with them. It is so embarrassing. I love it though. I know he will be a wonderful dad someday.

5- What is your favorite feature of his?
Kory's eyes. They are gorgeous! I also love his ears. They are so little and soft. :-)

6- What is his best quality?
He is very patient with me and everything that goes on in our lives. Along with that he is very caring about how I feel.

7-Does he have a nickname for you?
Mostly he just calls me sweetie.

8- What is his favorite food?
He likes anything that comes in large portions. He especially always asks for white chili, chicken parmesan, and homemade macaroni and cheese.

9- What is his favorite sport?
Kory is not really into many sports. If he watches one he will get into it if someone else that is with him is into it. I am planning on hooking him on golf.

10- When did you first kiss?
About a week after he said he wanted to just date me. My roommate told him he should so he did.

11- What is your favorite thing to do as a couple?
Anything where we can be together. I especially love playing board games and dragging him to stores with me. He makes shopping so fun.

12- Do you have any children?
Not yet.

13- Does he have any hidden talents?
I had no idea he was such a handyman. He is able to fix almost everything. He is also amazing with money and finances! I'm always amazed at his brilliance.

14- How old is he?
23

15- What is his favorite music?
Music? I seem to remember him liking music once but now all he ever listens to is talk radio. If I am with him he will normally turn it to country for me.

16- What do you admire about him?
He has an incredible faith that things will work out the way they are supposed to and is always trying to help me see it that way.

17- What's his favorite color?
Sage Green.

18- Will he read this?
I will tell him to.

19- Who said "I love you first"?
He did. I could tell he really wanted to say something and my guess was that was what he wanted to say. I didn't help a bit and tried to make it pretty hard on him to get up the nerve, but he eventually just came out and said it.

20- Who do I tag??? Mother Marchant, Heather, Michelle, Natalie ( I think it is interesting and fun to hear about these experiences from everyone-even all you old timers :-))

Valentines!

Valentines was such a wonderful day this year. Kory made it very special. He told me awhile back that if I would stop worrying about making sure he made holidays special that I would be surprised at how special he really could make them without my help. I never really planned on letting him handle a holiday all on his own but I have been busy. Plus, Valentines was never a grand holiday for me anyway, so I just didn't mention anything to him. Well, Valentines morning I woke up and hopped in the shower and when I got out he had breakfast cooking. I came out to hug him and he handed me a card he had made and a very cute skirt he had bought! I was utterly floored! The cute skirt he bought. (p.s. I'm not really that tall! I am wearing 2 1/2 inch heels.)

Who would've known. That is not all though. Later, he took me to a movie I had been wanting to see and then came home and made steaks and mashed potatoes for dinner. (My favorite and a tradition from last year.) What a wonderful hubbie I have! This holiday was more special than any of the ones that I have tried to tell him how to make it special. :-) I may just have to trust him in the future...

Design Adventures

Sarah has reminded me that it has been awhile since we posted so I have thought long and hard and decided to post about our latest design project in our house. Since Kory was finally convinced to get Dish we have been watching a lot of HGTV and all of the room makeovers. Our first step was to paint an accent wall in the kitchen and then make curtains for the window. However, we found this material that we just loved for the curtains and decided we would make the curtains first and then get the paint. I had a feeling when Kory was buying the material that I would end up doing most of the work, but to my wonderful surprise Kory helped a lot. He did a lot of the pinning, a little bit of sewing and designed the pattern. AMAZING!!Here is a close up of the awesome pattern Kory envisioned. To buy a pattern it would have been another 15 dollars so Kory started drawing and came up with an excellent design. I must say I was worried until they were finished. I could not envision but decided to just go with it. I am happy I did. It was a few day project and we got a table runner out of it as well! The color isn't fantastic in the pictures but what more incentive for you all to come to our house and see it for yourself! Now that this expensive project is out of the way it is time to choose some paint!! I couldn't blog without posting a picture of Buster! This is our first experiment with pulling her hair up even though it wasn't quite long enough at the time. Oh well, she is still cute!
